Even slimmer than before
The Lenovo ThinkPad T490s is a slim notebook from the popular, business-oriented ThinkPad line. Traditionally, the "s" models offer the same performance as the "regular" versions, but in a more compact chassis. However, the T490s breaks with this tradition, as Lenovo has gone a step further and developed an even thinner model—while slightly reducing performance.

Solid performance
Nevertheless, performance remains at a very solid level – equipped with an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor. Whether for school work, office work, or occasional surfing at home – the T490s handles everyday tasks with ease. However, if you're looking for a device for more demanding tasks like advanced image editing, we recommend the regular T490, the physically larger T590, or the P-series models with dedicated graphics cards and better cooling for increased processor performance.

Cheaper than the X1 Carbon
There's a reason for the performance sacrifice: Weighing in at around 1.3 kg (black model), this notebook is so thin and elegant that many see it more as a cheaper alternative to the X1 Carbon than simply a thinner version of the T490. Nevertheless, the build quality remains at the high level expected from Lenovo's ThinkPad lineup. The overall construction feels robust—even when typing for long periods on the excellent ThinkPad keyboard.
